A little bit about my coworker and I. We work at a local small biz in Albuquerque, NM. Boomtime, where we focus our energy on designing and developing websites and marketing packages for our spa and restaurant clients. When Zerek and I first met and worked together, we had some bugs to work out. I had to stress the details in design to him, and he had to stress the can’s and cannot’s of development. With that, we’ve come to understand each other’s dynamics and evolved into a great working and functioning designer / developer relationship. Thus, becoming the Dynamic Duo.

Nike’s advertisment quoting M.Monroe is fantastically inspiring and motivational. Not so much because of Nike. Granted they produced it so nicely and so clean, but because of Monroe and her words of wisdom. Can’t say I spent any time figuring out when this was produced, but shared by one of my coworkers, I jumped on sharing with you.

I am an active board member with NM’s AIGA chapter, as the communications director. I thoroughly enjoy communicating with designers here, whether they are students and new to the career, to the veterans. Keeping up with other communities like Webuquerque and our “abq web geek” events has a way of keeping that spark alive here in the developer/designer side of things as well.

Being an active member of the community has opened up a lot of doors for me. I have had the pleasure of working with many folks that I look up to for inspiration and such.

I think the best thing that I can recommend to my fellow designers, is to get involved in your community. Reach out, stay in tune and hold on to the value of communication and networking. You’ll also make some amazing friendships along the way.

Hersey’s, I love and respect. For branding reasons, they have maintained a consistent image over it’s years of existence. Like Coca-Cola, it’s one of the few brands that maintain and do it so well. Keep up the good work!

It’s almost like a secret language, and makes me giggle every time.

That is all.

Of course, I’m a gal who loved preparing my portfolio, and rearranging the pages a million times to make sure it flowed well. This doesn’t feel like a step, or an object that I feel I have to hold on to. My book has not been used to apply to anything since 2007, when I was applying to a webdesign gig with almost all print work under my cover. Today, I pondered and shared some thoughts with my co-designer on the matter, is it necessary to bring a book to an interview anymore? Both of us agreed that the answer is on a case by case scenerio.

Print specific application/interview: Bring your book! Reason being, it’s a lot easier to show the quality of print work and skills you have to offer by showing off the work you have produced in it’s purest form. This does not exclude you from providing a portfolio online either. Especially for those trying to land that long distance interviews.

Web design application/interview: Stick it to the web! Reason being, self explanatory. It’s a web design position you’re aiming for, so show off your best web designs!

Photography application/interview: As another creative field, I am a believer that this route also requires a book. Reason being, same as print. You want to show off the quality of work in your best pieces. How you captured detail, that a lo-res image for your website may not hold as strong and true as a printed piece.

Regardless of the options, I do believe that everyone should maintain a portfolio online. It’s a great method of networking, influencing and getting your work exposed.

Here’s a splendid review, from my Pops utilizing this in a Linux environment.

This is a test of the new keyboard, which so far is super nice. Only time will tell how well it will hold up to the riggors of a linux environment.

The keyboard is a super thin Logitech wireless 2.4GHz solar powered device. The key pressure and feedback is great, although the home dimples are a bit less obvious than the norm.

Installation under LINUX is minimal, in that the USB-transmitter is activated simply by inserting it into any available powered USB port. The keyboard is then turned on, after removal of a battery-insulating “pull-tab”.

The elevator legs provide an 8-degree slope, which feels about normal. However, due to the extremely thin profile of the keyboard, one is forced to experiment and enjoy the new feel of a flat keyboard. Not only is this position very comfortable, it also appears to have an advantage over a sloping keyboard…wrist position seems to be very natural and efficient. Again, time will tell if this opinion proves noteworthy.

The packaging claim states that the solar charge will last over three months in total darkness. This might be why no cap-lock or num-lock leds have been discovered. Perhaps in a windoz environment, on-screen indicators may appear…something this writer will simply have to imagine!

For the curious, the packaging indicates an informative site exists at www.logitech.com/k750/solarapp. In the mean time, this testor shall conclude that the Pepsi spill was for a good reason.

This review was written on SuSE 11.3 with the editor “nano”. Perhaps a few photons and a handful of electrons were transfered in the process.
